Are you a designer? Why or why not? I am a designer. Some might describe me as more of a ‘maker.’ I make what I like but that still requires decision making, so yes I am a designer.

One word to describe your take on design: Design is in everything. Everyone is a designer. If you decide to put your couch next to the window because you like natural light, then you’re a designer. Design is about making optimal choices.

The last thing you made: The last thing I made was a bright pink paper pulp bedside table, because I needed one!

The next thing you want to make: I really want to make a coffee table out of paper pulp. I have a few new tricks up my sleeve…

A designed object you adore: Piggy banks are just too cute!

A designed object you can’t stand the sight of: Resin river tables.

A moment of pure creative joy: When I see something out in the world and I find myself thinking of ways to integrate its elements into my designs.

When we say “designing the future,” what comes to mind? Design plays a big role in how we view the world. The more comfortable we are with unconventional ways of making or designing, the more open we are to other things in the world changing and shifting. Little things like that make a big difference because everything feeds into everything else.

If you could show your work to anyone in the world, who would it be? I would have loved to make Prince a throne. I also think Ashnikko would like my work, I'd make her a crazy throne!

Your aesthetic embodied as a…

sound? A balloon letting out air

color? Orange

texture? Lumpy

Your *grail*: if you could own one iconic design work, what would it be? Faye Toogood's Roly-Poly chair

What’s next for you? I’ve been working on making a lot of ceramics lately, and an online shop coming at the end of the summer.  Long term I want to make full size furniture out of ceramic. But in the meantime I want to continue to make some weird paper pulp furniture!︎
